Plasco was the trade name for the Plastic Art Toy Corporation of America, a toy company based in New Jersey. They were one of the titans of the "Plastic Era" of toys, which exploded in popularity following World War II.

Manufacturing Timeline

The Post-War Boom (1947): Plasco first launched its famous "Little Homemaker" line of plastic furniture in 1947. Before the war, dollhouse furniture was usually made of wood, metal, or lead. However, wartime restrictions on metals led companies to innovate with plastics like polystyrene.

The Golden Age (1950s): This was the decade when Plasco dominated. They capitalized on the "housing boom" of the era by creating miniatures that mirrored the modern appliances and furniture found in new suburban homes.

Decline: By the early 1960s, competition from larger companies like Marx and a shift in toy materials saw the classic hard plastic Plasco lines begin to phase out.
Key Features of Plasco Furniture

The Branding: Most pieces are clearly embossed on the bottom with: "A Plasco Toy, Made in USA."

The Scale: Most Plasco furniture was produced in 3/4 scale (also known as 1:16 or 1:18 scale), which was the standard for the popular lithographed tin dollhouses (like those made by Marx) of the time.

The "Little Homemaker" Line: This was their flagship series. It featured remarkably detailed kitchen appliances (ovens, refrigerators, sinks) and "Tomorrow's Garden" patio sets.

Material: They used a hard plastic (polystyrene) that allowed for fine details—like tiny knobs on stoves or "wood grain" on buffets—but was notoriously brittle. Finding pieces without "melt marks" (caused by chemical reactions with soft plastic dolls) or chips is a win for collectors.

Condition: All items should be considered in good played-with condition.
