Wolverine plastic dollhouse furniture is a staple of mid-century Americana, specifically known for accompanying the iconic tin lithograph dollhouses produced by the Wolverine Supply and Manufacturing Company. If you're looking at these pieces today, you’re likely seeing the shift from the company’s metal-only roots to the plastic-heavy era of the 1950s through the 1970s.

1. The Historical Context
Wolverine was originally a tool and die company in Pittsburgh (est. 1903) that became famous for its "Sandy Andy" sand toys. By the 1950s, they expanded into girls' toys under the "Sunny Suzy" and "Rite-Scale" labels.

The Transition: While Wolverine is most famous for its metal (tin) work, they began sourcing and producing plastic furniture to fill their lithographed steel houses as plastic became the cheaper, more versatile material for mass production.

The Move: In 1970, the company moved to Booneville, Arkansas, and was eventually rebranded under names like Today's Kids in the 1980s.

2. Key Characteristics & Style
Wolverine furniture is often compared to (and sometimes confused with) Marx, but it has a distinct "working class" charm.

Scale: Most pieces are 1:24 scale (half-inch scale), which is smaller than the standard 1:12 scale. This allowed them to fit inside the relatively shallow rooms of tin-litho houses.

Materials: Primarily hard polystyrene plastic. Unlike the soft, rubbery plastics of later decades, these are brittle and can snap if stepped on.

The "Look": * Kitchens: Usually bright pink, yellow, or white. The "Sunny Suzy" line featured refrigerators and stoves that often mimicked real-world brands of the era.

Colors: You’ll frequently find "candy" colors: turquoise bathrooms, salmon-pink bedrooms, and "wood-grain" brown plastic for living room sets.

3. Collecting and Value
While not as "high-end" as handcrafted wooden miniatures, Wolverine plastic furniture has a massive nostalgia market.

Identification: Look for the "Wolverine" logo or a circular mark. However, many sets were sold in bulk and were unmarked; collectors often identify them by the specific molds (e.g., the "S"-curve legs on dining chairs or the specific texture of the TV screens).

The "Sears" Connection: Wolverine produced many exclusive sets for the Sears Christmas Wishbook, making these specific colorways (like the "Modern Kitchen" sets) more sought after.

Condition: All items should be considered in good played-with condition.
