The Marx-A-Mansion (also frequently referred to as the Marxie Mansion) was the flagship of Louis Marx & Co.’s 1960s dollhouse line. While many Marx houses were roughly 1/2" scale (1:24), the Marx-A-Mansion used a larger 3/4" scale (1:16), allowing for more functional and detailed plastic furniture.
The furniture designed for this house is distinct from the earlier "Traditional" hard plastic line. It generally features a mix of hard and soft plastics, often in vibrant mid-century colors like teal, pink, and "wood" brown.
Identifying Marx 3/4" FurnitureThe Logo:
Almost all authentic pieces bear the "Circular Marx Logo" (the letters MAR over a large X inside a circle) on the bottom or back.
Material: Most pieces are "hard" plastic (polystyrene), but some were made of a slightly more flexible "soft" plastic (polyethylene).
Comparison to 1:24 Scale: If a piece looks like it’s "too big" for a standard tin litho Colonial house, it is likely the 3/4" scale intended for the Mansion or the "Little Hostess" sets.
Collectors' Note on Maintenance
Because the 3/4" scale was specific to the Mansion and a few other large-format Marx sets, these pieces are highly sought after to complete original houses.
Condition: All items should be considered in good played-with condition.
